Mississippi healthcare advertising, telehealth and privacy rules

Mississippi in brief. Mississippi is in PSYPACT, so a psychologist licensed here can apply to treat clients by telehealth in the other PSYPACT states. Mississippi has enacted the Counseling Compact, which wasn't live here yet when we checked. Mississippi has no comprehensive privacy law or consumer health data law in effect. Below: what Mississippi's licensing board allows in advertising, with links to the official text.

Mississippi licensing boards’ advertising rules

Ads, websites and directory profiles all count as advertising to a licensing board. These are the Mississippi rules we check copy against, with links to the official text. Boards update their rules, so read the current version before you rely on a summary.

Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure

  • Physician ads that include patient testimonials must clearly and prominently disclose what the generally expected outcome would be in the depicted circumstances and the limited applicability of the endorser's experience. (30 Miss. Admin. Code Pt. 2635, R. 12.3(E)(8))
  • A physician named in an advertisement or other written communication should not be identified only as "Doctor" or "Dr." and must be identified as M.D., D.O. or D.P.M. (30 Miss. Admin. Code Pt. 2635, R. 12.3(E)(2))
  • A physician may not claim to have a drug or medication, or a use of one, for a specific ailment or condition unless it has an FDA-approved indication for that purpose. (30 Miss. Admin. Code Pt. 2635, R. 12.3(E)(12))

Telehealth across Mississippi's borders

Mississippi is a PSYPACT state. A psychologist whose home license is in Mississippi can apply for PSYPACT's telepsychology authorization and then see clients by telehealth in the other PSYPACT states, so ads can reach clients there too.

Mississippi has enacted the Counseling Compact, but it wasn't live here yet when we checked. Once it is, a licensed professional counselor based here can apply for privileges to practice in other member states instead of a separate license in each.

It has also enacted the Social Work Licensure Compact, which isn't issuing multistate licenses yet; the compact's commission expects its licensing system in 2027.

For physicians, psychiatrists included, Mississippi is in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which speeds up getting a license in other member states but doesn't replace it.

Telehealth ads should only reach places where the clinician can legally treat: see PSYPACT and Counseling Compact states.

Practices near a state line often see clients from next door. Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama each have their own page.

Health data, tracking and Mississippi law

Mississippi has no comprehensive consumer privacy law or consumer health data law in effect as of 30 September 2026. Federal rules and a practice's own HIPAA duties still apply.

This is not legal advice.

Across the searches measured here, Mississippi patients look most for gastroenterologists (about 950 a month), then therapists (800). A click on a gastroenterologist search here costs about $1.35 on average, close to the $1.40 median across the 233 gastroenterologist searches measured on our state pages.
