Alaska healthcare advertising, telehealth and privacy rules

Alaska in brief. Alaska is in PSYPACT, so a psychologist licensed here can apply to treat clients by telehealth in the other PSYPACT states. Alaska has not enacted the Counseling Compact. Alaska has no comprehensive privacy law or consumer health data law in effect. Below: what Alaska's licensing boards allow in advertising, with links to the official text.

Alaska licensing boards’ advertising rules

Ads, websites and directory profiles all count as advertising to a licensing board. These are the Alaska rules we check copy against, with links to the official text. Boards update their rules, so read the current version before you rely on a summary.

Alaska health care practitioners (AS 08.02.110)

  • Listed licensees, including professional counselors, marital and family therapists, physicians, psychologists and clinical social workers, must show letters or a title after their name identifying their field of practice on all signs, stationery and other advertising for their services. (Alaska Stat. 08.02.110(a))

Alaska State Medical Board

Alaska Board of Professional Counselors

  • The board may discipline a licensed counselor who used an advertisement or solicitation that is false, misleading or deceptive to the general public or to the person it was primarily directed at. (Alaska Stat. 08.29.400(a)(10))

Telehealth across Alaska's borders

Alaska is a PSYPACT state. A psychologist whose home license is in Alaska can apply for PSYPACT's telepsychology authorization and then see clients by telehealth in the other PSYPACT states, so ads can reach clients there too.

Alaska has not enacted the Counseling Compact, so a counselor licensed here needs a separate license for each other state.

It has also enacted the Social Work Licensure Compact, which isn't issuing multistate licenses yet; the compact's commission expects its licensing system in 2027.

For physicians, psychiatrists included, Alaska has passed the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, but the compact lists its implementation as still in process or delayed, so for now a doctor needs an Alaska license through the usual route.

Telehealth ads should only reach places where the clinician can legally treat: see PSYPACT and Counseling Compact states.

Practices near a state line often see clients from next door. Washington, Oregon and Hawaii each have their own page.

Health data, tracking and Alaska law

Alaska has no comprehensive consumer privacy law or consumer health data law in effect as of 30 September 2026. Federal rules and a practice's own HIPAA duties still apply.

This is not legal advice.

What patients search for in Alaska

Searches a month that name an Alaska city, with the average cost per click, from Ahrefs (checked between 30 September and 5 October 2026). A dash means too few to measure; “near me” searches aren't counted. The Statewide row is searches that name the state.

CityTherapistPsychiatristKetamineWeight lossGI
Anchorage150 $5.00100 $3.004040100 $3.00
Statewide–40100 $3.00––
Fairbanks3050 $3.50–––

Of the cities measured, Anchorage gets the most of these searches. Its biggest single search, “therapist anchorage”, gets about 150 a month. To turn a cost per click into a cost per booked patient, put your own numbers into the patient acquisition cost calculator.

Across the searches measured here, Alaska patients look most for psychiatrists (about 190 a month), then therapists (180). Anchorage alone accounts for 66% of them. A click on a psychiatrist search here costs about $3.17 on average, close to the $3.00 median across the 274 psychiatrist searches measured on our state pages.
