Oklahoma healthcare advertising, telehealth and privacy rules

Oklahoma in brief. Oklahoma is in PSYPACT, so a psychologist licensed here can apply to treat clients by telehealth in the other PSYPACT states. The Counseling Compact is live in Oklahoma. Oklahoma has no privacy law in effect yet; the Oklahoma Consumer Data Privacy Act starts on January 1, 2027. Below: what Oklahoma's licensing boards allow in advertising, with links to the official text.

Oklahoma licensing boards’ advertising rules

Ads, websites and directory profiles all count as advertising to a licensing board. These are the Oklahoma rules we check copy against, with links to the official text. Boards update their rules, so read the current version before you rely on a summary.

Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision

  • Allopathic physicians may claim to be "Board Certified," "Certified by," a "Diplomat" or a "Fellow" only if they have shown the board they completed all requirements for certification by an ABMS member board, ABPS, NBPAS or another board-approved certifying organization. (Okla. Admin. Code 435:10-7-2)
  • The board treats conduct likely to deceive, defraud or harm the public, and false or misleading statements about a physician's skill or the efficacy or value of a treatment, as unprofessional conduct. (Okla. Admin. Code 435:10-7-4(11)-(12))

Oklahoma State Board of Behavioral Health Licensure (professional counselors)

  • All LPC ads and announcements of counseling services, including directory listings, must clearly state licensure status with a title such as "LPC" or "Licensed Professional Counselor" or a statement that the counselor is licensed by the board. (Okla. Admin. Code 86:10-3-5(d))

Telehealth across Oklahoma's borders

Oklahoma is a PSYPACT state. A psychologist whose home license is in Oklahoma can apply for PSYPACT's telepsychology authorization and then see clients by telehealth in the other PSYPACT states, so ads can reach clients there too.

Oklahoma is one of the first states where the Counseling Compact is live, so a licensed professional counselor based here can already apply for privileges to practice in the other live member states instead of a separate license in each.

It has also enacted the Social Work Licensure Compact, which isn't issuing multistate licenses yet; the compact's commission expects its licensing system in 2027.

For physicians, psychiatrists included, Oklahoma is in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which speeds up getting a license in other member states but doesn't replace it.

Telehealth ads should only reach places where the clinician can legally treat: see PSYPACT and Counseling Compact states.

Practices near a state line often see clients from next door. Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado each have their own page.

Health data, tracking and Oklahoma law

Oklahoma has no comprehensive consumer privacy law or consumer health data law in effect as of 30 September 2026. Federal rules and a practice's own HIPAA duties still apply.

The Oklahoma Consumer Data Privacy Act, already passed, takes effect on January 1, 2027 and will treat health data as sensitive data.

This is not legal advice.

What patients search for in Oklahoma

Searches a month that name an Oklahoma city, with the average cost per click, from Ahrefs (checked between 30 September and 5 October 2026). A dash means too few to measure; “near me” searches aren't counted. The Statewide row is searches that name the state.

Of the cities measured, Tulsa gets the most of these searches. Its biggest single search, “psychiatrist tulsa”, gets about 350 a month. To turn a cost per click into a cost per booked patient, put your own numbers into the patient acquisition cost calculator.

Across the searches measured here, Oklahoma patients look most for gastroenterologists (about 640 a month), then psychiatrists (570). Tulsa alone accounts for 55% of them. A click on a gastroenterologist search here costs about $1.44 on average, close to the $1.40 median across the 233 gastroenterologist searches measured on our state pages.
